Emily

I fell into this community purely by chance, and promptly became enamored by the music, culture, and the beautiful people who breathe life into it. My fondness for contra (and swing dancing!) is rooted in is versatility and level of creative expression. I love to meet new people and learn about them through the quiet illustration of movement. I believe in the beauty of connection and the warmth of community, and feel so lucky to share this dance with you all!

My first experience of Contra was at the Belfast Flying Shoes as a 7th grader! From there it has grown into a deep love and appreciation of the vibrant dance community in Maine. I'm thrilled to co-organize this dance with my friends!

My first exposure to contra dancing was due to my sister Emily (one of my co-organizers). We both fell in love with the contra community and culture. From there we have traveled to many dances & festivals in the Northeast where we've enjoyed meeting new people and hearing many amazing bands. We are very excited to be bringing such incredible talent to Maine. I hope to see you out on the dance floor!
