Cumberland County Contra Dance Code of Conduct:
The CCCD is a welcoming space for people of all backgrounds and experience levels. Our mission is to create a strong community of dancers where everyone can enjoy socializing safely. In alignment with this mission, we have the following expectations at our dance events:
Invite people to dance and always respect their answers when they say “no.” Do not pressure them or ask why.
Folk dancing involves close physical proximity, hand-holding, and other forms of physical contact. As such, it is important to make concerted efforts to obtain explicit consent and remember that members of our community may have different tolerances for physical contact and social interaction.
Check in about dance roles, injuries, and flourishes each time you dance with someone.
Practice good communication with other dancers, and be attentive to how they're dancing.
Give and take feedback gracefully. For example: "Would you like a dancing tip?"
We are a sober event. Do not bring alcohol or drugs.
Do not attend or participate under the influence.
Please do not wear strong perfumes or scents.
We do not tolerate hate language or discrimination of any kind, at any time, at our dances. If you bring it to our dance, you will be escorted out immediately.
CCCD organizers reserve the right to take action if any attendee is not acting in accordance with our code of conduct outlined above. This is at the discretion and interpretation of the organizers.
